Sheahan Hall Dormitory

This photo of Sheahan Hall was taken shortly after it was completed in time for the September 1962 usage for 120 college students.  The building was named for Monsignor Sheahan, pastor of St. Peter's Church in Poughkeepsie, New York, who was instrumental in convincing the Marist Brothers to purchase the vacant farmland property in 1903.

The building was financed with an HHFA government loan.  The interior walls are wallboard, which was a departure from the cinderblock in use for most college dormitories of the period.  The college had to bid the structure two ways: one with wallboard, one with cinder block, to prove to the HHFA that wallboard was cheaper, as well as nicer looking.   The building was completely renovated in time for its 40th anniversary in 2002.
