Leo Hall Dormitory

With the success of construction of Sheahan Hall, the HHFA approved a much larger loan to construct Leo Hall, a dormitory for 300 students on six floors.  The contractors were the Slutzky Brothers from High Falls NY, who also developed Hunter Mountain, a noted ski resort.

Leo Hall was completely renovated in time for its fortieth anniversary in 2003. The photo above was taken in June 2003, while it was being readied for the Fall 2003 semester.

The building is named for Brother Leo, a Provincial of the Marist Brothers who had the vision to establish Marist Training School, a two year teacher preparatory school for training Marist Brothers in 1927.  This was transformed into Marist College by Brother Paul Ambrose in the 1943-1946 era.

The building was financed with an HHFA government loan.  The interior walls are wallboard, which was a departure from the cinderblock in use for most college dormitories of the period.  The college had to bid the structure two ways: one with wallboard, one with cinder block, to prove to the HHFA that wallboard was cheaper, as well as nicer looking.   The building was completely renovated in time for its 40th anniversary in 2002.
