Thomas McKeon and early television

Thomas McKeon (second from the right) worked for Long Island Lighting, the local utility.  However, he showed interest in and aptitude for electronics, which became his hobby second only to fishing.  He built his own television set, measuring about 4 inches square, in 1939, and picked up signals from the demonstrations of television taking place at the New York World's Fair taking place at Flushing Meadows, about five miles from his home in Douglaston, NY.  This photo shows Paul Roth (kneeling), Tom's good friend, before the beginnings of a larger TV.  The large woofers are visible in the lower panel.

After Thomas died, Paul Roth and his wife relocated to Florida.  While there, Paul handled Florence McKeon's accounting and tax matters until she relocated to Somers New York in the late 1980s.
