The Foy home in Upper Garryedmond |
![]() |
The original house remains on the farm owned by John Foy, Patrick Foy's grandson. It remained unoccupied after 1967, as John Foy's family had moved into a new house originally built for Ellie Foy Costello, but she refused to move from her own home. Mai Foy had married Brian Gormley and moved into a house on Knock Road near the center of Claremorris. Peggy Foy worked in the Galway Library. Patrick Foy, the oldest boy, had long since married and moved to London. A priest from a London parish began to use the house as a vacation retreat. When he retired, he embarked on an extensive renovation. Richard Foy and his daughter Bridget visited the house and priest in June 1998. We understand that the arrangement is that the priest may occupy the house during his lifetime, but it will revert back to John Foy when the priest leaves or dies. |
