Foy(e) and Anne Halligan moved with their family

(near Abilene) in 1885. |

<<===
Anne Halligan (1845 - 1931) was born in Kilcolman
Co Mayo just off the road connecting Claremorris to
Knock. William moved to Kilcolman when he
married Anne. Kilcolman is the Irish name
for St Colman's Church and appears in many
counties in Ireland, as St Colman was a very
popular saint in Ireland. |

<<=== This map
downloaded from Mapquest shows the towns close to Vine
Creek. The choirs for the funerals of William
Foye and then Anne Halligan were from Niles, directly
south of of Vine Creek. To give
perspective, the distance from Minneapolis to Trenton
along route 81 is thirteen miles. |
|
| |
The
Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe railroad completed its
construction from Atchison on the Mississippi to
Los Angeles in 1883, and soon thereafter crossed the
Mississippi to reach Chicago. There were a maze
of railroads built in the Midwest and Far West at this
time. In 1887, the Chicago, Kansas and Western
Railroad came east from Minneapolis and established a
station at Vine Creek, which was advertised as a
perfect loading point for cattle destined for the
Chicago stockyards and slaughterhouses. By 1910
this line was taken over by the Santa Fe.
The main line of the Atchison Topeka and Santa Fe ran
southwest through Topeka and Newton to Dodge
City. ===>>
