Questions I was unable to answer
so I'm leaving them to someone else ...!

  •  Where are the deeds conveying Camp Sunset to the Marist Brothers and the sale by the Marist Brothers to others?

  • Who designed the house Payne purchased for William C. and Flora Payne Whitney on 57th street, now the site of Bulgari?

  • Who was the artist who designed and executed the frescoes on the interior courtyard of the main house?

  • I located a quarry near the coal dock.  Where were the other quarries (numbering 4)?

  • Where was the barn which was shared by the Donaldson brothers?

  • Can we trace the ownership of the New Paltz Patent from the Donaldsons to the Gordons?

  • Do any pictures or portraits exist of Archibald & Helen Russell,  of Neidlander, of the Astor who owned the property, of Durkee?

  • When did the Jesuits sell their property (called Manresa on early maps) to Mother Cabrini?

  • When did the Irish Christian Brothers purchase the estate from the Russells?  Were there any intermediate owners?

  • Who was the grantor and the grantees of the Foxhall Patent?  (nb.,  There is a Foxhall Street in Kingston and one of the wings of Kingston Hospital is called the Foxhall wing.)

  • Why were the river or north lots of the New Paltz Patent so large? (Hint.  I am told there is information on this at the New Paltz library.)

  • I've been told that in 1942 the Marist Brothers were offered the entire estate.  Is there any way to corroborate this?  Brother Joseph J. R. Bélanger has been tracing the Riordan property, which was an alternate to Esopus in 1942.

  • Can someone find the stone and photograph it? Where are the children of Ursula Burroughs Love?  Do they still own property along Riverby?

  • Did John Burroughs (1909 - 1958) ever marry?  (He is listed in the Social Security Death Index, but little info except dates of birth and death.

  • Find the connection, if any, between Mary Wurts and the organizers of the Delaware and Hudson Canal, William and Maurice Wurts.

  • Attempt to find information on Russells, Hollands, and Neidlingers in New York City sources.

  • Make the connection between the Livingstons,   the Pells and the Duanes..

  • Find a map of the subdivision of the New Paltz patents, especially the three mile or river lots.

  • Find information on  New Paltz, Kingston, Hurley, Marbletown & Rochester patents.

  • Find the Episcopal nuns' convent from which the eight nuns were buried in Ascension Cemetery.  It probably was in Kingston.  I was told by a Redemptoristine Sister that she remembered a convent near St Mary's church in Kingston.  This was corroborated by Brother Joseph Matthews, whose older brother mowed the lawn for the Sisters when he was a teenager.

  • Locate any relevant photos in the files of Julian Burroughs which are located in the New York State Museum in Albany NY.  See www.nysl.nysed.gov/msscfa/sc21212.htm

  • In same place, locate correspondence between Julian Burroughs and Emma Larson, the supervisor of Payne's three properties.

  • Find a photo of the original greenhouse.  I remember seeing such a photo when I was a Junior in 1942-1945.  Sean O'Shea also remembers the photo.
